H was in an adorable mood today! Really chatty (no IDEA what he was supposed to be saying of course!) and especially smiley! I found his Monkey Puzzle book (Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler) which we hadn’t seen for some time and he cuddled right up for a read. H already LOVES The Gruffalo’s Child by the same author / illustrator, which we’ve read to him nearly every night since he was about 4 months old and it’s now part of his bedtime routine. When I found Monkey Puzzle in a charity shop some time afterwards, I was attracted by the images and the rhyming content but had no idea it was by the same two. H won’t sit through many traditional ‘story’ books unless there is some kind of ‘lift-a-flap’, pop-up or noise to go with it BUT with both The Gruffalo’s Child and Monkey Puzzle, he patiently enjoys every moment. I would love to know what it is….could be the stunning illustrations…or maybe the sound of the words in their sing-song rhyming tones. I don’t know. But it works! He practically bashed me in the face with the book…the first time he’s ‘asked’ for a story! And we had to have it again………….and again…………………….and again……………..
Just juggling those balls, and getting better every day!I have often read about that elusive creature, the Yummy Mummy. She looks amazing (she already achieved the slightly lesser MILF status with very little effort at all) and she successfully juggles her colourful social life / challenging career with bringing up her beautiful, well behaved little angels. This blog reflects my quest for Yummy Mummy status (if, indeed, such a thing really exists). In the meantime however, I'm just juggling those balls (like many other busy mums and dads) and getting a little bit better at it every single day!
